1. Introduction

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords eligible students (students over age 18 or attending postsecondary institutions) and parents of dependent students certain rights with respect to the student’s education records.

We designate the following as “directory information” that may be released without consent unless you opt out:

To opt out of directory‑information disclosures, submit a signed, written request to the FERPA Records Office by [date each year].

6. Rights of Parents and Eligible Students

At age 18 or upon enrollment in a postsecondary institution, FERPA rights transfer from parents to the student (“eligible student”). Parents of students under age 18, or of eligible students claimed as dependents on IRS returns, may exercise these rights.

7. Filing a FERPA Complaint

If you believe your rights under FERPA have been violated, you may file a complaint with:
